    Bob Gray: Voice of Experience

    Bob Gray has the distinction of having more years of seniority at ACS than the company has been in business.  That's because Bob was working at one of the firms that merged to become T & B Computing (the original name of ACS) and was allowed to count his years of service there when T & B Computing was formed.  In his 30+ years here, Bob has witnessed remarkable changes in operating systems, programming languages and software technology.  When he first began his career in computing, he programmed in Fortran for a mainframe computer, even using card decks on occasion, and had to debug using core dumps (or hex dumps).  Access to the computer was through shared terminals in a terminal room, where they were connected via phone modems …

    Here to serve you, the Advantage Support Center is always available to provide assistance.   The center is staffed during normal coverage hours (8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays).   In addition, after-hours support is easily accessible outside these hours.     Sean Leslie: Welcome to ACS

    We are pleased to welcome Sean Leslie, who joins ACS as a programmer in the Product Development group led by Howie Brooks.  Sean is a recent graduate of Florida International University in Miami, Florida, and earned a degree in computer science there.  Sean has always been interested in computers, although his early interest was focused on playing games on them (something he still likes to do). Sean grew up in Miami, but with both parents employed by major airlines, the family did a lot of traveling including many trips up and down the east coast, and treks to Vancouver, Seattle, Mt. St. Helens and the Gulf Coast. After graduating from college, Sean looked for a job in the computer game development field, but did not find that to his liking.  He came to …

    ACS Welcomes New Employee: Rob Elliott

    We are pleased to welcome Rob Elliott, who joins ACS as a programmer in the Product Development group led by Howie Brooks.  Rob is a graduate of the University of Michigan: Dearborn, where he earned a degree in Computer and Information Science (CISI).  Rob grew up in Holly, Michigan, where he wrestled, ran Cross Country, and was a vital member of the Quiz Bowl team. Rob has four much older siblings, so was raised essentially an only child, with strong logical influence from his father. Since childhood Rob has seen through the eyes of a scientist, always exploring and seeking to understand the world around him.     Major Project Goes Live at Our Sunday Visitor

    The Publishing division at Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) has been happily using Advantage for many years and the Curriculum division was brought online in 4th quarter of 2009 with a successful implementation. The remaining division, Offertory Solutions, recently went live on Advantage after an extensive development and implementation project.  Offertory Solutions primarily prints and sells offering envelopes to churches, and although there are some features in common with magazine and book sales, the vast majority of the functionality is unique and required development.   The new system replaces several other outdated systems, as OSV was looking to advance their technology both in the office and on the production floor.  As of July 19th, all of OSV--the Publishing, …

    ACS Welcomes Ouest France

    ACS is pleased to announce that Ouest France is the latest publisher to choose Advantage.  Ouest France is a large regional newspaper company based in Rennes in Brittany.  They publish 4 daily papers and their flagship--called Ouest France--is the largest daily newspaper in France, with 800,000 copies and 44 editions a day.    Implementation has already begun and the ACS project team includes Levi Hyssong (project manager), Philippe van Mastrigt (project director), and Karl Davis (lead engineer). For Ouest France, the team includes Antoine Péculier (project manager), Jean-Dominique Hardy (project director), Anne-Yvonne Surel, (IT project manager) and Laurence Cuchard (system administrator).  We welcome Ouest France to  the Advantage community. http://www.ouest-france. …

    Second European Client Meeting Held

    On May 18, ACS hosted a meeting of the Advantage clients in the European region in London.  The purpose of the meeting was to update the EU-region clients on ACS activities and strategy, future software direction, new features in our latest release of the software, and to provide an opportunity for networking with other ACS clients.  18 attendees representing 10 clients were present.  Dan Heffernan hosted the meeting and gave a presentation on news, strategy and software futures.  This was followed by a presentation on direct debit progress by Chris Elson (Saga) and Bob Thornton (ACS).  Philippe Van Mastrigt presented and discussed new features in the 2010r1 release of Advantage, with an eye to those features which are of unique interest to Advantage users in the EU …

    New Employee: Virginie Motte

    ACS is pleased to welcome Virginie Motte as a new employee.  She is working with Philippe van Mastrigt, Director of European Operations, and is based in Paris.  Currently, Virginie is providing operational support to Bayard Presse, assisting them with campaign and renewal set-up.  In addition, she is in charge of setting up and maintaining the French Translation of Advantage User Manuals.  Virginie has worked at Bayard for the past two years, and handled fulfillment.  She also worked on the VPC project, converting to Advantage.  Prior to that, she worked in the supply chain, helping to implement sales forecast software, and also worked as a customer service manager for a subsidiary of company TOTAL, French main oil company.  In joining ACS, Virginie …

    Financial Accounting Foundation GASB Website Launched on Advantage

    The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) website store launched successfully on Advantage in mid-April.  GASB establishes standards of financial accounting and reporting for state and local governmental entities.  The project lasted a little over a month and a half.             On FAF's side, the team included Jim Lapinski and FAF website consultants.  Work on the ACS side was done by Molly Mathe and Greg Sharp.  Congratulations on a successful go-live!

    How the Advantage Launch Pad Benefits You

    With the 2010r1 release of Advantage, it is now easier to manage multiple Advantage configurations from a single location, including a new mechanism for users to launch the Advantage application.  This enhancement follows an industry-standard approach, and is called the Advantage Launch Pad.   In prior releases, the configuration settings for individual areas were located in client and server-side configuration text files (Advantag.ini).  These plain-text files, located on each and every workstation as well as the application server, were prone to users or processes inadvertently deleting or compromising them.
