Welcome Interns of Summer

We are delighted to welcome our summer interns and look forward to meeting them face-to-face when the office fully opens.

   

Margaret Ehinger

Your hometown?

Ypsilanti, MI

College and major?

Undergrad: University of Michigan – Mathematics. Masters (ongoing): Eastern Michigan University – Mathematics.

What led you to choose your major?

I always liked math and I liked the small class sizes at UM’s math department. 

What are you working on at ACS?

I’ll be helping out with the rewrite of the support page and switching Cider from Orchard to Orchard Core.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work/school? 

I enjoy gardening (let me know if you want any basil or oregano plants!), cooking, and hiking.

What are you most looking forward to doing when the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted?

Having a meal with my family! Only once it’s safe, of course.

What was the last book you read for fun?

“The Defining Decade” by Meg Jay.

What’s a fun or odd fact about you that your colleagues don’t know?

I have the world’s cutest pitbull. Her name is Lulu.

College and major?

University of Michigan Ann Arbor - Computer Science Engineering

What led you to choose your major?

A fascination for both computers and software alongside a strong desire to explore and understand
the underlying details of how it all works after seeing their widespread impact on the world.

What are you working on at ACS?

I am working on building a new support site for our clients on a new platform (Orchard Core).
The support site is designed for existing clients to interact with Advantage and is used
by clients to submit tickets, get contact information, download packages, and more.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work/school?

Swimming, reading, and browsing the internet.

What are you most looking forward to doing when the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted?

Visiting friends and family.

What was the last book you read for fun?

The Road, by Cormac McCarthy

What’s a fun or odd fact about you that your colleagues don’t know?

I've never broken a bone before!

Amilee Peltz

Your hometown?

Windsor, CO.

College and major?

University of Michigan, and I am majoring in Computer Science.

What led you to choose your major?

I took programming classes in high school that were very enjoyable, and I was inspired to pursue Computer Science.

What are you working on at ACS?

I am working on remaking the ACS Support website, and getting it to run on the OrchardCore framework.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work/school?

I love cooking, video games, and a little bit of gardening.

What are you most looking forward to doing when the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted?

Going to the farmer’s markets once they open again.

What was the last book you read for fun?

Good Omens

What’s a fun or odd fact about you that your colleagues don’t know?

I have been vegetarian for a few years.

Thomas Smith

Hometown:

Saline, MI

College and major:

University of Michigan, Computer Science

What led me to choose my major:

I first started programming with Lego Mindstorms robots in middle school. Ever since then, I've enjoyed the problem solving and creativity involved in computer science.

What I'm working on at ACS:

I'm working on re-creating the current Advantage help site in Orchard Core.

What I enjoy doing outside of work/school:

I enjoy backpacking, canoeing, and playing board games.

What I'm most looking forward to doing after restrictions are lifted:

I'm looking forward to being able to meet up with friends and family in person.

The last book I read for fun:

The Silmarillion, by J.R.R. Tolkien

Fun or odd fact about me:

Lemons are my favorite fruit.

Matt Tarry

College and major?

University of Michigan and Computer Engineering

What led you to choose your major?

My freshman year, I took the intro Computer Science course and really enjoyed the projects. I ended up choosing Computer Engineering over Computer Science because I enjoyed the hands-on aspect of hardware.

What are you working on at ACS?

I'm working to convert Cider to OrchardCore.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work/school?

I enjoy running, playing basketball, reading, and writing fiction. I'm currently learning how to play the piano.

What are you most looking forward to doing when the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted?

Eating out with friends, even though it's not good for my bank account.

What was the last book you read for fun?

The Things We Carried by Tim O'Brien; it's a collection of short stories about the Vietnam War.

What’s a fun or odd fact about you that your colleagues don’t know?

I don't let myself take a shower until I've gone for a run (don't worry I get it done every morning).
