The ACS Product Development department—specifically, the team led by Toby Hartman—recently welcomed Ben Sha as its newest member. Ben is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he earned a degree in computer science.
Ben always knew he would pursue some sort of engineering but didn’t choose his major until he attended his first computer programming class in college. Then he was hooked. He likes computer science because—as he puts it—“you can literally create something out of nothing.” In mechanical or other engineering branches, he explains, you start with an existing product and then work to improve it or add to it. In computer science, however, “it’s all ideas.”
A native of New Jersey, Ben looked at a number of engineering schools and chose to attend the University in Michigan in part because he was impressed with Ann Arbor when he visited. He liked the variety and number of activities available there, as well as the fact that the engineering school has an excellent reputation. After graduation, he decided he wanted to stay in the area. His parents and married sister are all in New Jersey, and Ben finds time to visit when he can. He enjoys travel and has been to Taiwan several times to visit relatives there—Ben speaks Mandarin fluently--and once spent a week in Kyrgyzstan on a mission trip. He would like to travel to Europe and visit as many countries as possible.
When he isn’t working, Ben enjoys playing basketball and volleyball, as well as Ultimate—a team sport in which players throw discs to score points. He also likes watching all sorts of movies and hopes to get back into reading, something besides textbooks.
We are pleased to welcome Ben to the Advantage family!
