  • Congratulations to Barbara Smith--Soon-to-Be Retiree

Senior software engineer Barbara Smith is officially retiring from ACS at the end of August.  For a time after that, however, she will continue working to finish up several current projects.  We don't want to say goodbye to Barbara.  But who could begrudge her a retirement she has so thoroughly earned?  In her eleven years at ACS, her contribution has been tremendous.  Barbara served as the lead engineer on many implementations and other assorted projects, many of them for international clients.  She has spent significant amounts of time in London, Paris, Copenhagen and Oxford and enjoyed each city.  Each has its own special charm, she says, explaining that Paris is gorgeous and impressive, while London is more home-y and she likes …

  • "Move Order" at MSTDAT

Starting at 2011R1, a new right-click action is available at MSTDAT/FST, MSTDAT/MST, SVCDAT/MST, and the Master Orders tab at MSTDAT/CTG.  The action allows you to move one or more orders from any closed control group, or any control group you have open, to any other closed control group, or to any other control group that you have open. One effect of this change is that if you are closed out of Advantage while at MSTDAT/FST, you no longer need to go to MSTDAT/CTG to close and reopen your control group.  Instead, go to MSTDAT/FST and press the Current Control Group button, where the list will contain the control group you were just in.  Select this control group and click the Open button, and you will be presented with the option of reopening the control group. …

  • Highlights of 2011R2

Here are some of the features you'll find in the second Advantage release of this year.  Contact your account manager for more information.    A new set of AMB tables gives users access to "virtual" information on transactions which Advantage does not otherwise store with the agreement.  Users can access such data as: agreement start date less free and adjustment days, expire date less grace days, and a conversion from trial flag.  At the access point level, data such as the following is available: access point event (add, change delete), price override flags, discount amount, sales amounts.  In addition, deleted access points are now retained for historical purposes.  Users can make use of these tables---which have been implemented as SQL views---in …

  • Agora's Indian Affiliate Goes Live on Advantage

Through much of the past year, ACS has partnered with Agora to complete an in-conversion from Equity Master, Agora's office in India.   Equity Master provides information about more than 500 leading companies in India, which account for over 90% of India's market value. Through Equity Master, customers can gain access to various stock market recommendations, archives, and special reports. The project of converting Equity Master data into Advantage encompassed customer, promotion, and electronic subscription data; as well as implementing the AMB module for the first time at Agora. To account for the online data-entry into Advantage, the team made adjustments to the website to make use of the AMB capsule calls provided through the AdvantageWEB module. Tara Rebak, …

  • Scripted Request System

ACS has developed a Scripted Request System to aid clients in requesting processes and/or jobstreams from scripts which run outside of Advantage.  Capsules have been created to allow users to communicate with the Advantage Monitor from the command line, wait until a process finishes and then return a success or failure code. This is not intended to replace the request screens but rather to give clients a way to interface with an enterprise scheduling system for selected processes or jobstreams. The processes still run under the control of the Advantage Monitor and the monitor notifies the scheduling system when the process or jobstream is complet The interface to the scripted request system is a powershell named advantage_submit.ps1 that is …

  • ACS Welcomes Rachel Larson

ACS is pleased to welcome Rachel Larson as a full-time member of the Advantage family.  Rachel has been working as an intern in the engineering department part-time during school years and full-time over the past four summers.  She graduated from the University of Michigan this spring with a bachelor's degree in computer science from the engineering school. (It's also possible to study computer science through the college of Literature, Science and the Arts.) A dyed-in-the-wool engineer, Rachel freely labels herself a computer nerd.  She has always liked math and science and does not get at all excited about writing assignments.  Her favorite entertainment genre is science fiction, whether it's books, movies or games.  And yes, she's a Trekkie—original …

  • Alan Cherney: Programmer Artiste

To Alan Cherney, programming is an art and he happily bears the title of artist.  Programming satisfies his creative urge because, as he says, "you're building something and it involves design and structure."  Alan has always been interested in art and computer graphics, and throughout high school he built a portfolio intending to apply to art school.  When he began using his computer graphics in simple web programming, he found he had a real knack in that area and changed his focus to computer science, with emphasis on art and design.  During his last several years in high school and all through college, Alan was able to earn money and gain experience doing freelance computer graphics. Alan became an intern at ACS while still attending the …

  • Promotions Management Re-Designed in 2011R1

For many of you, the letters CPNPMO, when put in that order, conjure up thoughts of vast amounts of detailed information about promotions, views full of item information and pricing, and perhaps some questions about how it all is organized.  Well, I have some good news ? these issues have been addressed in a re-design of the campaign and promotion setup workspace.  In fact, the re-design is so intuitive, we barely need these words to describe it! For starters, the data has been grouped more clearly by type of promotion, so that all costs for e-promotions are near one another, for example.  Also, the workspace uses script technology, where you can customize the way the workspace appears for users establishing different kinds of promotions and campaigns.  Why force a user to …
