Tradeshow Season 2022

Tradeshow season is always busy for AdvantageCS! Read about our most recent events:

FIPP World Media Congress

This year's FIPP World Media Congress took place in Cascais, Portugal from June 7-9. This was the first in-person congress since COVID began. FIPP held the congress virtually over the course of a month in 2020.

The event this year was smaller than previous in-person ones, with only about 400 registrants, but in some ways, it was a better event as a result. With fewer people in attendance, everyone seemed more open and friendly and happy to make new acquaintances. We've found this to be true of other smaller events: everybody talks with everybody, and you get to know a lot of attendees.

The 2 exhibit halls were small and intimate, with about 10 companies exhibiting in each, but the delegates had to go to these to get their food and drink. There were stand-up cocktail tables near the booths, so this produced traffic and an opportunity to talk during lunch and breaks. We had many fruitful conversations with new acquaintances and met old friends as well.

The sessions were top-notch, as we’ve come to expect from FIPP. We heard from many industry leaders, and some new players and the topics were as varied as the participants, covering everything from diversifying revenue to DEI and everything in between.

The icing on this cake was the venue. The congress took place in the citadel of Cascais, Portugal, which is right next to the marina. The citadel is now a hotel with different buildings for restaurants, exhibit halls, meeting rooms, and museums. It is charming and a beautiful setting. The food and wine were fantastic. It was Portugal, after all! The town of Cascais is on the waterfront (like a bay) and has many restaurants and cafes on the small, winding streets. We look forward to returning in June 2023 for the next FIPP World Media Congress.

SubSummit Conference Powered by SUBTA

Dan Heffernan and Kelly Grace hosted a booth at the SubSummit trade show powered by SUBTA – Subscription Trade Association – in Orlando, Florida on June 1-3. The show is the largest subscription trade conference which consists of six segments: subscription boxes, subscribe and save, membership, media and publication, digital / software, and streaming (video and music).

The event had over 1,500 attendees, 200 suppliers, and 100 speakers, which provided opportunities for people to discover new strategies and horizons. Exclusive seminars, networking opportunities, and track/keynote sessions were part of the trade show. AdvantageCS participated in the Hosted Buyer program on the second day, where we had the opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with a variety of merchandisers.

Society for Scholarly Publishing 44th Annual Conference

More than 800 attendees (reaching near pre-pandemic levels!) took part in this year’s SSP Conference at the beautiful Sheraton Chicago Grand right on the Chicago River. Attendees came from across the globe for the first in-person event since the pandemic began. AdvantageCS was represented by John Sheehy and Cindy Twiss, who staffed the ACS booth for the 3-day event.

Session topics included open access (of course), innovation in the scholarly world, DEI, artificial intelligence, and even climate change. Attendees were thrilled to be able to gather and network with old—and new—friends and colleagues.
